Cowboys 38-21 Eagles, Week 7: result and recap

Next Kickoff in …

Next match will be at Thanksgiving 26th November at 16:30.

Dallas got it's night at last. The Cowboys beat the Eagles 38-21 at Lincoln Financial Field on Monday, answering every Philadelphia score in the first half and then pulling clear with eighteen unanswered points.

Dak Prescott threw three touchdowns without an interception, Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards, and a Philadelphia offence without Jalen Hurts could not keep pace. It is Dallas's first win in three weeks and Philadelphia's fifth straight loss.

Cowboys vs Eagles: How the match went

The game turned on exactly the matchup the preview flagged. Dallas came in with the worst run defence in the league, and for once it did not matter, because Philadelphia could not out-trade them.

The Eagles actually led 21-20 early in the third quarter, Tanner McKee finding rookie Makai Lemon for a four-yard score and his first NFL touchdown.

That was the Eagles' last point. Dallas answered with eighteen without reply, Dak Prescott finishing long drives that McKee could not match, and when McKee threw into the hands of Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown with just under eight minutes left, the night was settled.

The headline was the ground game Dallas has not had all year: Javonte Williams ran for a career-high 155 yards and the Cowboys piled up 204 on the ground, a season best. It took the load off Prescott, who did not need a big night and did not have one, 212 yards, but all three of his touchdowns found the end zone, two to CeeDee Lamb and a 21-yarder to George Pickens. The win lifts Dallas to 3-4 and, as unlikely as it looked a week ago, keeps them in the NFC East race.

For Philadelphia it is the same story getting worse. McKee's line, 23 of 35 for 211 yards with a touchdown and the costly interception, was tidy enough and nowhere near enough, and the picture behind him darkened further after the game: the Eagles now expect to be without Jalen Hurts for the rest of the season, with the Associated Press reporting blood clots in his lungs. A team that won the Super Bowl eighteen months ago has lost five in a row and sits bottom of its division.

Cowboys vs Eagles: The head-to-head

The win nudges the all-time series a little further Dallas's way: the Cowboys now lead it 76 wins to 59 across 135 meetings, and still lead the rare playoff meetings 3-1, as the Cowboys–Eagles rivalry page sets out in full.

The two met twice in quick succession at the end of the 2024 season, Philadelphia winning both on the way to the Super Bowl, before Dallas took the most recent regular-season meeting in November 2025 and now this one.

These are divisional rivals, so they play again inside the same season: the rematch is on Thanksgiving, Thursday 26 November, in Dallas, by which point Philadelphia's season may already be a question of pride rather than position.

Cowboys vs Eagles: What the Betting Odds Said

For the record, the market read this one correctly. Dallas closed as a 4.5-point favourite on the road, with the combined-points total at 44.5. They won by seventeen, so they comfortably covered, and the 59 points scored sailed over the total.

The two main models had called it a Cowboys win too, both landing on 24-19; they had the right team, just not the margin. Shown for context, not as a tip.

Cowboys vs Eagles: When, where and how to watch

The two meet again on Thanksgiving, Thursday 26 November, the afternoon game of the holiday, with Dallas hosting the return fixture at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

Kickoff is 4:30pm ET on FOX in the United States, a far friendlier slot for anyone watching from here than Monday's small hours: 9:30pm in the UK and 10:30pm in central Europe, streaming on NFL Game Pass.

It is the divisional return, both teams in the NFC East, so it still moves the division race, not just the win column.

The below stats and analysis was done before the game on the 26th October and will be updated closer to the Thanksgiving Day Matchup.

Cowboys vs Eagles: The deeper read

The preseason story had the Eagles as contenders again and the Cowboys scrambling to fix a defence that leaked all through 2025. Six games in, only the bad half has held, for both of them.

Dallas still cannot seem to defend: they give up 26.5 points and 149.8 rushing yards a game, the worst run defence in the league, and their pass rush has managed eight sacks in six games. The one thing keeping them in games is Dak Prescott, who is throwing well even as the team has slipped to 2-4.

Philadelphia is the mirror image, and it has got worse. The defence is still the steadier unit, but the offence has fallen apart: the Eagles have scored 17.7 points a game, 28th in the league, and lost four in a row. Through the first five weeks that was Jalen Hurts' offence, and even then he was being sacked often and sitting on a modest 84.7 passer rating.

Then Hurts was placed on injured reserve with a blood clot in his calf, and the offence passed to backup Tanner McKee, a 2023 sixth-round pick. McKee made his first start of the year in the Week 6 loss to Carolina, completing 26 of 45 passes for 215 yards with a touchdown and no interceptions, tidy enough on its own but not the spark a four-game slide needs.and an untried passer trying to wake up a stalled attack.

Completions / attempts163 / 24626 / 45
Passing yards1,639215

Passer rating90.177.5

Passer rating is the NFL's 0 to 158.3 scale for passing efficiency; anything over 100 is a strong season. Dak's line is six games and McKee's is his one start, in the Week 6 loss to Carolina.

Cowboys vs Eagles: Who to watch

For Dallas, CeeDee Lamb is the receiver defences build their week around, with George Pickens opposite him and Javonte Williams carrying the load on the ground, already with eight rushing touchdowns. For Philadelphia, it now runs through Tanner McKee, leaning on Saquon Barkley and DeVonta Smith, both of whom have been managing injuries.

Cowboys vs Eagles:What the game turns on

The cleanest question on the board is whether Philadelphia can make Dallas's run defence, the league's worst, do the work its own quarterback cannot.

If the Eagles can lean on Barkley and keep McKee out of obvious passing downs, they can hang around at home. If Dak simply outscores a stalled Eagles offence, which is the likelier path, Dallas edges a game between two struggling teams.

Cowboys vs Eagles: my NFL rookie fan prediction

Two models and the betting market all lean the same way, towards Dallas. Dimers projects a 24-19 Cowboys win; Stats Insider, from 10,000 simulations, lands on the same 24-19 Cowboys score with a 68% win probability. The striking part is the line: the Cowboys are favoured on the road, and the Eagles, Super Bowl winners eighteen months ago, are home underdogs. That is what a four-game losing streak and a quarterback injury do to a price.

My final rookie verdict:

With no loyalty to either team, I lean the way everyone else does, Dallas, but don't take my word, it could either way, because both teams are a bit of a mess. It may come down to Dallas's run defence: if Philadelphia can run on it, as most teams have, a backup quarterback at home can stay in the game longer than he should.

The likelier outcome is Dak outscoring a stalled Eagles offence and Dallas edging it. No tip, just where it leans and why.
